Happy Fall! Welcome to all of our new subscribers, and thanks to those of you who responded to the Special SOS Monthly about reaching out...

As you know, I’m all about changing the world. I have a really big vision, really big goals, and really big plans. I want each woman to feel powerful as an individual, and all women to imagine what they can do if they all exercise their power together.

But you know, sometimes the little stuff can really get in the way.

Forget Changing the World! Build a Batmobile

Some days I think, "How the heck am I going to motivate women to change the world, if I can't even get my daughter to put her clothes away?" Or, “How can I invest in my self and/or my business if I’m paying $3.36 a gallon for gas?” Or, “How can I possibly think about making my life better when it doesn’t even come close to being as bad as life has gotten for people on the coasts of Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama?”

How about you? Think about your power to change the world. What’s the first thought that comes into your head? Do you think, “I’m going out to create new laws to clean up the beaches in my community?” Or is it, “I can’t even find the time to wash the kitchen floor!”

Are you thinking, “Right on! I can raise $5,000 for breast cancer treatment.” Or is it more like, “How am I going to get enough money to get the car fixed?”

The world right now is not very conducive to big, positive change. War, natural disaster, affordable housing shortages, rising gas prices—I’m sure you can come up with your own list. So you think, “How I can possibly conceive of changing the world, when I can’t even clear off my desk?”

And you know what? You're right. So forget about making the big leap into changing the world for the time being. Focus changing your desk’s world. I turn to Batman for illustration.

In Batman Begins, we see Bruce Wayne's transformation into Batman. And it took a loooooong time. Once he made the decision to be Batman, he did not run out and start changing the world by fighting crime. He first got his own act together. He designed his high-tech suit, he outfitted the Bat Cave, he built the Batmobile. Without any of these, he couldn’t begin to create the changes he wanted to see in the world.

So if the thought of changing the world makes your head spin, first clear off your desk. Or wash the kitchen floor. Or build your Batmobile.
