Big doings this month! And I don't mean the added stress of the approaching holiday season. I was given (yes, given) the opportunity to take over one of my favorite sites on the web. Allyn Evans, founder of QueenPower.com, is moving on to other things, and offered the site to me--isn't life great? See the article below, for more info. I've also got a great offer for all the women on your holiday gift list. This month's big topic is families and Rent. Intrigued? Read on... At this time of year, we tend to gather with our families. Unfortunately, we may focus on anything but enjoying the moment. We dwell on how these people have injured us in the past, or we spend our time planning how we can change them in the future. What is the point? Why would any sane person spend hours of precious time and lots of precious money to sit and ruminate over wrongs done years ago? Or sit home alone out of spite. I mean really—is it that important to you that, 30 years ago, your brother got to go out with his friends while you had to stay home and babysit your other siblings? Are you really still fuming about the fact that your older sister got to leave the house when she was 18, and you were stuck there for another six years because you’re six years younger? Or, is it important that you’re able to see and enjoy your parents and your siblings and all your other relatives on this Thanksgiving, because you’re moving 3,000 miles away from them next year? Is it more fun to watch different generations interacting and having fun with each other, or to make sure that the younger generation has exactly the same opinion of your relatives as you do?
There’s only us There’s only this Forget regret or life is yours to miss No other road No other way No day but today Only 24 words, but they sure do pack a wallop. For me, they scream, “Stop wasting energy on what you cannot and should not control!” There is no other road but the one you’re on, no other people than the ones you’re with (or the family you’ve got), no day but the one you’re living—today. Yes, you can change the road you're on, and the direction of your life, but it’s a long process, and it’s not going to happen in one day. Just like when you’re driving and you end up at the wrong store, you can’t instantly get to the right store—you have to drive legally on the roads until you get there. Goals are great, but equally great are the moments we have and the things we learn right now. So if you find yourself dwelling on the past, or wishing your family was different than who they are, try to use that energy to find something positive or funny or enjoyable about them. If you’re stuck regretting what they could have been, or trying to control how they interact with you, you could end up missing something really cool. “Life Support” by Jonathan Larson. ©1996 Finster & Lucy Music Ltd. It was later determined that he suffered from undiagnosed Marfan Syndrome, which effects the body's connective tissue, and can lead to weakness and rupture of major blood vessels.
