I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the concept of "home".

Particularly, how do you know you're there? Were you born to your home, or did you find it later? What does it mean to be away from home, and can we handle it? Are we more productive and happy when we are near it? This is a big, big topic, and I'll probably fill up a couple more issues with it over the coming months. I start wrestling with it, below.

On a much lighter note (don't you hate it when newscasters say that?), I am thrilled to announce that my birthday wish has come true. Audiences with Queens is here!

Finally, for you writers (and aspiring writers) out there, I'd like to let you know about the latest offering at the QueenPower Institute. It's a great course to help you smash whatever's blocking your writing.

Wishing you all a fantastic February,

Barbara

How Do You Know You're Home? Part the First

I'm moving. Back to California. This summer.

Those of you who have read the "She's living her dream life on Martha's Vineyard" line in my bio may be scratching your heads right about now.

What the heck is she doing?

For nearly three years, my husband has been living in a different city from my daughter and me. We all had this grand plan that the three of us would end up here, but it just hasn't happened. So Michael's been commuting from California, New York, and now California again. We're tired of living apart. We are married, after all. So, after much mental wrestling, my daughter and I are headed back to California after she finishes school. She thinks we're stupid.

We are lucky enough to be able to keep our house here, and to spend all vacations here. After all, this place is home to me. Really. I get a physical reaction when I leave, and another when I return. But that's a topic for a future issue.

One tack to take is "Home as Extension of Your Physical Environment". I spend a lot of time making my office into the most conducive physical environment it can be. Is home what you make it?

Another is "Home is People." Perhaps home has absolutely nothing to do with physical location. That all that matters is who's with you. Is home more about relationships?

Right now...I just don't know. But I'm sure I will find out.

Over the coming months, I'll be sharing all the trials and tribulations of moving across the country (again), as well as trying to keep my business up and running throughout this transformation. Should be plenty to write about!

Michael's done an amazing job of finding us a new home back in Valle di Silicone (Silicon Valley...but doesn't it sound better in Italian?), which you can see here. Bear in mind that this is so not our furniture. Would love to have you come by if you're in the neighborhood.

So I'm off on a new adventure. Any advice and/or words of encouragement are welcome!

Audiences with Queens

Birthday wishes really do come true! I am so proud to announce Audiences with Queens, the result of my birthday wish to connect women with women experts in various fields. The response was overwhelming, and I'm spending much of February and March recording "audiences"!

Our first two audiences are up, with eight more to come in the next 30 days! And, I've launched the Audiences with Queens podcast, so you can try out each new Audience as it's available.

If you are an expert in your field, or you know any women who are, or if there are women you'd like to hear from, let me know.
